Total Hip Replacement Arthroplasty in Active Tubercuiosis of the Hip


Abstract
Traditionaly, tuberculosis of the hip was treated by antituberculous chemotherapy, synovectomy and sometimes by additional hip fusion. But, because of their limited functional result, restoration, of normal joint function is difficult to achieve.
Recently, residua of tuberculosis of the hip is treated by the method of total hip replacement artbroplasty in case of dormant or active tuberculosis under the cover of antituberculous chemotherapy.
Preoperative antituberculous chemotherapy was not used in this case.
A case of active tuberculosis of the hip with cold abscess with was treated at Dept. of Orthopec Surgery, Province Hospital of Kimchon, on April 1986 and was followed up to November 1987, as presened.
